 Greetings, everyone.

It has come to our attention that we will have the unique opportunity to hear the Johnson Space Center's Director, Mr. George Abbey, speak to us at the EPSCoR Expo. In order to accommodate Mr. Abbey, we will need to begin the conference promptly at 8:00 am on May 8, rather than 8:30. Please adjust your schedules accordingly. We look forward to seeing you Monday morning.

Thank you,

If you plan to attend the May 8-9 EPSCoR Expo at JSC, please send me: A) your name, B) contact information, and C) citizenship. This is needed for security clearance. Again, this is an excellent opportunity to continue networking with NASA researchers and should be considered high on your NASA EPSCoR travel plans. Thanks.

Greetings from the Johnson Space Center. I hope this message finds each of you well.

The University Affairs Office is in the process of preparing for the upcoming EPSCoR Expo on May 8 - 9. I hope you will all be able to

participate in this unique opportunity to take a close-up look at JSC research. We need to have an accurate count of attendance. I would like to have each EPSCoR director send a list of expected attendance including the participant's name, contact information, and citizenship. This list should be as accurate as possible so we can use the proper size requirements when planning the Expo. The list will also be used for obtaining security clearances for the touring portion of the conference. If you plan on attending the conference, we need to hear from you. Keep watching your email for the latest updates from JSC. I look forward to meeting each of you soon,

Thanks for your help,

Subject: Expo 2000!

Greetings from the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas! I hope you are all enjoying wonderful weather for your respective Spring Breaks. This email is an effort to provide more information regarding the upcoming EPSCoR Expo at JSC (May 8-9). The details of the conference are coming together, so keep an eye on your email for further details. The following information will provide you with some ideas for your trip.

Flights: You will need to arrive at the Johnson Space Center no later than 8:00 a.m. Monday, May 8. Unless you can fly Concorde, a Sunday night hotel stay in Houston will be necessary. The airport in closest proximity to JSC is the Houston Hobby Airport. Bush Intercontinental Airport is fifty minutes North of JSC, so plan your flights accordingly.

Attendance: We are not limiting the number of people that can attend the Expo. The attendance however, must be limited to those university level researchers in EPSCoR states who will truly benefit from the experience.

Attire: The dress is business casual. Comfortable clothes are a must because of the sometimes stifling Texas heat.

Hotels: The hotels listed in the following websites are all within 10 minutes of JSC. These hotels should honor government or university rates.  Be sure to ask for these discounts when making reservations.

http://cass.jsc.nasa.gov/meetings/ISRU-II-97/hotels.html

More details will be forthcoming, so keep checking your email for the latest news. We are rolling out the red carpet at JSC and we hope everyone will be able to participate in this extraordinary opportunity.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Subject: NASA EPSCoR Expo - May 8-9, 2000 at JSC (and May 11-13 SATS Symposium in Rapid City)

Dear SD NASA EPSCoR team members and SDSGC leadership,

Please note that there will be a NASA EPSCoR Expo at Johnson Space Center on May 8-9, 2000. I spoke with Wes Tarkington of JSC's University Affairs Office today. Although the May 8-9 dates referenced in his e-mail below were tentative when he wrote the message, they have now been confirmed.

Additional details of the EPSCoR Expo will be released soon, but I wanted to give you a heads-up since it sounds like a good one to attend. Throughout the Expo, NASA personnel will be available for discussion with EPSCoR researchers to discuss projects and ideas. This sounds like an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and collaboration with NASA personnel and to develop new ties.

The Expo will be held in JSC's Building 9 which houses the full-scale mock-ups of the Space Shuttle Cockpit and International Space Station. The mock-ups will be available for entry. Wes said they are planning guest speakers, including some astronauts, as well as some enjoyable social activities for the participants. He said this is the first time they are planning an EPSCoR conference of this nature, so he wants to do it right.

When I get more details, I'll pass them on. The event is now on our SD NASA EPSCoR "Events List" website <http://www.sdsmt.edu/space/nasaepscor/Event_List.html>.

Please note that JSC's EPSCoR Expo is right before the May 11-13 Upper Great Plains Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) Symposium at the Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City, which is another EPSCoR project. The SDSGC is co-sponsoring the SATS Symposium. Information on that event can be found at <http://www.sdsmt.edu/space/SATSMay2000MeetingInfo.htm>. Although the SATS Symposium doesn't seem closely related to our SD NASA EPSCoR Planning Grant project in NE South Dakota, I've added it to the "Events List" website simply because it is an EPSCoR project, it will be held in South Dakota, and it may interest some of you.

Regards,

Tom

Subject: NEW DATES! - EPSCoR Expo at JSC

Importance: High

Dear EPSCoR Directors,

Three days ago, you were emailed a set of proposed dates for the EPSCoR Expo at the Johnson Space Center. After receiving several responses indicating an overlap of the proposed dates with the EPSCoR - NASA Code R SATS meeting in Rapid City, SD, we would like to propose another date for the Expo.

In an effort to allow everyone interested in attending the conference the ability to attend, we would like to propose May 8-9 as the dates for the conference. If these dates make it impossible for anyone to attend please respond as soon as possible. If we receive no responses, we will assume the dates are acceptable. We hope everyone will be able to participate in this opportunity to take an inside look at the research taking place at the Johnson Space Center. We look forward to seeing each of you there.

Sincerely,

Wesley L. Tarkington
