Subject: 7th International Precipitation Conference

7th International Conference on Precipitation - 2001
Third Call for Papers
June 30 to July 3, 2001
Samoset Resort, Rockport, Maine, USA

The Seventh International Conference on Precipitation will take place from June 30th to July 3rd, 2001 at the Samoset Resort of Rockport, Maine in the United States. This conference will follow the tradition, established by the six previous conferences, of providing a general forum for enhancing interdisciplinary interactions, dialogue, and collaborations among all scientists interested in precipitation phenomena. The theme of the conference is observations, estimation, and prediction of precipitation variability at all scales. New observations of precipitation variability using remote sensing technology are fueling significant advances in precipitation research. We invite all papers that describe the progress during the last few years towards improving our ability to observe, estimate, describe, and predict rainfall variability across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales.

The beautiful Samoset Resort has been selected as the location for the conference. It is located within a short driving distance from Acadia National Park which is the only national park in the northeastern region of the United States.

Abstract Submission
The deadline for abstract submission is February 15, 2001.  For practical reasons, the conference attendance will be limited to about 150 participants. Since the conference is aimed at providing an environment which promotes interactions between as many scientists as possible, we plan to limit the contributions from the research group of each senior scientist to two papers. Travel support is available for young scientists. A camera-ready abstract should be submitted by regular mail to the following address:

Ms. Larisa Dupont

Registration
Registration fee for the conference is USD $350. The fee includes a preprint volume of abstracts, a welcome reception, a conference banquet, a dinner, three breakfasts, three lunches, and coffee breaks during the three days of the conference. Please register by filling out the conference registration form and mail it directly to the hotel (with a copy faxed to Larisa Dupont at Harvard).  Remember: space is limited to 150 participants. The form for those requesting travel support is available at the website. For more information please contact our website at: http://web.mit.edu/eltahir/www/precip/firstcall.html
