Subject: Sinte Gleska University wins NASA REASON CAN

         Immediate Release

Mission, South Dakota  - - Staff at the Sinte Gleska University (SGU), Mission, South Dakota, the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Global Science and Technology, Inc, Greenbelt, MD, Earth Satellite Corporation, Inc, Rockville, MD, and NASA Ames Research Center, Mountain View, California have collaborated to receive a substantial NASA grant to transform earth system data into products, information, and new knowledge about our planet.

The project funded under this Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) offers solutions to use USGS, SGU, and NASA assets and capabilities to support science findings and applications to  understand and predict the future of the Earth.   The winning proposal -- A Geospatial Extension of the NASA Information Power Grid -- will develop policy and resource management decision support systems, and generate educational tools to inspire and train current and future generations of Native and non-native scientists.

The projects funded under this CAN will join on-going NASA data and information projects to form the NASA Earth Science Research, Education and Applications Solutions Network (Earth Science REASoN).  The research, applications and education elements of the NASA Earth science community share interests and requirements that can best be met through cooperative efforts that generate, access and distribute data, information and knowledge. These projects will unite previously disparate activities and programs under a unified management approach, taking full advantage of public and private resources and partnerships to derive maximum benefit for the public good, and consistent with the President's initiative on competitive sourcing.
