NSIP is a national program of competitions for students in grades 3-12 to get involved in NASA's unique missions, and to honor exceptional participants. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn science by doing science. NSIP is an ideal opportunity to combine science, math, technology, research, and presentation skills. By participating in these competitions, students can learn about and design space missions, investigate Earth from space, explore Earth systems in their neighborhood, and learn about the latest developments in aeronautics, and Earth and space explorations. We are certain that many of tomorrow's leaders participated in the NSIP program this year.
Over 3,600 students participated in the 1999-2000 national competition. About 1,200 entries were received and then sent to seven NASA Centers where they were judged by very conscientious teams of scientists, engineers, and educators. Being selected as first place winners is quite an achievement for these three students and their teachers at Hill City Middle School. The South Dakota Space Grant Consortium is proud to recognize them. NSIP plaques and certificates were presented to the winning team members at the school's Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2000.
For any South Dakota students and teachers interested in receiving information on upcoming NSIP competions, contact Tom Durkin with the SD Space Grant Consortium or check the NSIP website.
