Stennis Space Center Trip May 20, 2004

Kevin Dalsted, David Clay, Gregg Carlson, and Sharon Clay traveled to Stennis Space Center on May 19, 2004.  We met all day on May 20th and returned home on the 21st. At Stennis the team visited with Keith Morris, Vicki Zanoni, and Rodney McKellip about current remote sensing activities as well as future collaboration.  A few other Stennis staff members came and went throughout the day.

The meeting consisted of lengthy discussions concerning presentations by Dalsted, Clay, Clay, and Carlson.  Dalsted provided background information on the SD Space Grant Consortium, SD natural resources, and preliminary finding on radiometric corrections of space-based data.  S.A. Clay discussed using remote sensing to identify and develop weed management zones.  D.E. Clay discussed using remote sensing to simultaneously identify N and water limiting areas in production fields.  C.G. Carlson discussed using remote sensing to assess soil water storage and remote sensing outreach activities.

In the last presentation of the day, Rodney McKellip, Project Manager, at John C. Stennis Space Center, discussed the changing role of the Earth Science Applications Directorate, and an upcoming new NASA grant program, Decisions.  An RFP for Decisions is expected to be released later this summer.  Based on this discussion several areas for potential future collaboration were identified and plans for future discussions were developed.
