Trip Report

Attendee:             Dennis Helder
Representing:       SDSU
Travel Dates:       March 23 – 28, 2002
Location:             Reston, VA and Greenbelt, MD

The purpose of this trip was threefold: participate in the JACIE workshop at Reston, VA; review Landsat research project with NASA Goddard colleagues; and introduce new SDSU NASA EPSCoR co-investigators to NASA colleagues. The JACIE workshop was an opportunity to present research already being done at SDSU on characterizing the IKONOS satellite to colleagues and interested participants. I presented two papers: Spatial Characterization of IKONOS and Geometric Characterization of IKONOS. In addition, my students prepared two additional posters on Radiometric Characterization of IKONOS and MTF estimation using Point Sources. During the three day conference our SDSU NASA EPSCoR faculty had an excellent opportunity to visit with many NASA personnel from Stennis Space Center and Goddard Space Flight Center. On the last day of the trip, we visited Goddard Space Flight Center to visit with colleagues in the Landsat Project Science Office. While there I presented results on Landsat 5 Outgassing research and Optimal Lifetime Gain Estimation. Others in the group took the opportunity to visit with additional NASA personnel.
